The Mascara Vault: Kat Von D's Sinful Lash

It's one thing to want that perfect lash, but personally, I find mascara to be an addiction. I'm always eager to try new ones out, whether they be drugstrore or high-end. I'm on the quest for the perfect look. And even when I find one I love... I keep going back for more.

Here's my first mascara review of a high-end product. Retailing at $19, available only at Sephora stores: Kat Von D's Sinful Lash mascara.

I'm a huge sucker for pretty much anything with Kat Von D's name on it. She does what she does well. I watched her on tattoo shows growing up and as I grew older and got into makeup, she launched her line with Sephora. The packaging for all of her products are beautiful! It's her own art on everything, and I think that's the coolest thing. The brush for this mascara is absolutely huge.

Excuse my crazy eye, it helped show the mascara.

The first thing I noticed about this mascara was how wet of a formula it is! Much too wet, in my own opinion. Not the kind of gross gloppy wet that's a mess, but the can't hold a curl because it's so wet... wet. Honestly, I left the lid slightly unscrewed overnight to let it dry out a bit, and I believe that was the key! The big brush separates the lashes very well, except the bottom lash line is extremely hard to work with due to the massive sized brush. The mascara adds decent length. Believe it or not, this gives a surprisingly nature finish to the lashes. For a KVD product, I expected big, bold and dramatic lashes. Removal was very easy with eyemakeup remover. While I do like this mascara, I do not love it. And for the price, I would not repurchase it. This is probably the first and only KVD product that I'm not head over heels in love with.

Veil of Smoke

My very first look for my first ever makeup blog! Golly, this is exciting! Without further a due, let's get started.

Brushes:
 MAC 222
 MAC 219
 EcoTools paddle brush
 EcoTools angle brush

Brows:
 Too Faced Sexpresso
 Covergirl Natural Lash mascara

For the eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden
Milani Liquif'Eye Metallic Eye Pencil in black
 MAC Cork
 MAC Black Tied
 Too Faced Silk Teddy
 Too Faced Heaven
 Urban Decay Black Dog
Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
Maybelline Falsies Black Drama in Blackest Black/Waterproof

Simply starting out with my eye shadow primer, I applied that liberally all over the lid, up to the brow. Taking the Milani pencil, using it's nearly buttery texture, I roughly applied that along the lashline and created a cat-eye. Taking the MAC 219 brush, I smudged the unset liner up and just barely into the crease. Before the liner is completely set, with the same brush dipped into MAC's Black Tied, I pat the color into the liner to intensify the color and add a nice sparkle. With the MAC 222 brush in Cork, I rock that softly into the crease, mainly to map out where the crease is, adding a bit of definition to the eye. Then with the EcoTools paddle brush, I take Silk Teddy and from the tear duct to the mid-lid, I apply it. Again, taking the MAC 222 brush, this time in Black Tied, I lightly define the crease and smoke out the harsh lines, without letting the shadow pass the crease too much. Add a classic cat-eye above the lashline with Urban Decay's 24/7 Waterproof liner. Too Faced Heaven will highlight my brow perfectly, any flesh-tone will do. Taking a bit of primer on my finger, I run that right under my lower lash line. With an angle brush in Urban Decay's matte Black Dog, I line under the lashes. Nothing in the waterline, to avoid smearing and raccoon eyes. Lastly, to curled lashes, I applied Falsies.

What I love about this look is it's almost a fake-out. When your eyes are open, it looks like a plain eyeliner-heavy look, but closed, it's much more interesting!
